Analytics Insights: How Can College Campuses Leverage AI Security Technology?

Originally published on Source Security.

A New Use for AI on Campus

AI is undoubtedly familiar to higher education from which the discipline began. As Neel Degrassi said on Late Night TV, “It wasn’t until AI started writing terms papers did the world take notice.” The importance of investing in AI security now is not to be underestimated. Top concerns on college campuses range from weapons detection to crowd control, facial recognition, LPR, and the like. For this reason, AI-driven, deep learning software can and should replace traditional solutions to provide more affordable, upgradeable, robust, and flexible solutions for a diverse set of campus challenges.

AI Security for Campuses

For example, universities can use facial recognition for building access control. Upon identifying a bad actor, the video analytics system triggers and alert so authorities can intercept them before they can cause harm. Video analytics can also make every camera on campus an LPR camera, tracking and alerting on suspicious vehicles while simultaneously supporting access control in parking garages. Crowd management is another important campus issue. By leveraging dwell alerts, security can be notified of a potential protest or even prevent illegal access to restricted areas. On-campus events got you down? Video analytics can streamline event operations by making stadium entry and exit times shorter, more efficient, and safer. AI security should no longer be optional. It should be widely adopted as the standard to keep our students safe and secure.

A More Secure College Experience

To wrap it up, video analytics can save thousands of hours of investigative time, convert video into invaluable data for strategic decision-making, all while also helping campuses run more efficient, safer, and more engaging college experiences. AI is about creating a future we can all be confident in. Who doesn’t want that?
