Prof. Shmuel Peleg, PhD

Chief Scientist, Co-Founder

Shmuel Peleg received his BSc degree in mathematics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1976 and MSc and PhD degrees in computer science from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1978 and 1979 respectively. He has been a faculty member at the Hebrew University since 1980, was the chairman of the school of computer science from 1989 to 1991, and has held visiting positions at the University of Maryland, New York University, and the Sarnoff Corporation. Peleg’s OmniStereo technology, developed to create three-dimensional photographs, was awarded a prestigious Kaye Innovation Award in 2002. He has published over 150 technical papers in computer vision, and is a member of the IEEE. Peleg holds 12 issued US patents that have provided the technical foundations to four companies: VideoBrush (USA), Emaki (Japan), HumanEyes (Israel), and BriefCam (Israel).

Dror Irani brings 23 years of business and management experience gained in leading positions in the Israeli high-tech industry. Most recently, Irani served as CEO of ImageID, where he led the company to a successful acquisition by Belgium-based Zetes Industries. Prior to that, Irani was a Vice President at Aladdin Knowledge Systems, serving as VP Global Sales where he led the doubling of worldwide sales from $40 million to $80 million within a few years. Prior that that, Irani headed the eSafe Business Unit, where he was in charge of 100 positions worldwide. During his years at Comverse (Nasdaq: CMVT), Irani was a Regional Director in several markets: Japan, Latin America and Europe. Irani received a B.Sc. degree in Computer Science and Economics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1986, and M.A. and M.B.A. degrees in Economics and Business Administration, respectively, from the same institution in 1990. He is also an alumnus of the TGMP program at Harvard Business School (2003).

Gideon Ben-Zvi is a successful serial entrepreneur who has founded and co-founded four companies over 16 years. In 1989, he founded Ligature, an optical character recognition (OCR) company that pioneered fax-OCR technology and delivered the market only OCR-on-a-chip. In 1998, he led a successful exit and M&A event. In 1995, Ben-Zvi led the integration of Ligature as the technology foundation of Wizcom Technologies, a world leader in personal scanning dictionaries, reading pens and scanning pens, and served as Executive VP of the integrated company. In 1999, Wizcom went public on the Deutsche Borse (WZM) and investors saw post-IPO returns of 12X and more. In 2001, Ben-Zvi co-founded HumanEyes Technologies, a 3D photography company serving the graphic arts market, where he raised $10 million in two rounds and served as CEO until 2006. In 2003, he co-founded and was Chairman of ASOCS, a developer of wireless multi-communication processors and system solutions for handheld and consumer devices. In 2007, Ben-Zvi co-founded BriefCam where he serves as Chairman. Ben-Zvi holds an MBA and BSc in Computer Science and Mathematics from Hebrew University Jerusalem. He is Venture Partner of Consumer Technologies at Aviv Venture Capital and a board member of the prestigious Jerusalem Studio School. Ben-Zvi served as in the Israel Defense Forces as Major of an elite Combat Engineers unit.
Dr. Yaron Caspi, PhD

Yaron Caspi received his BSc in mathematics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1991 and his MSc and PhD degrees applied mathematics and computer science from the Weizmann Institute of Science in 1993 and 2002, respectively. In 2003, Caspi co-founded Omnivee, a start-up whose software solution improved long-distance closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance by providing a cohesive view of an entire area in real time; the company was acquired by DVTel in 2005. Prior to that, Caspi served as CTO at Tidex Systems, Ltd., where he developed technologies for video based virtual reality, was a group leader in image processing at ElOp Electro Optics Technologies. Caspi has on several occasions been a Visiting Researcher at the Interactive Visual Media Group, Microsoft Research at Redmond, and provides consulting services and headed short-term software projects in digital video application for companies worldwide, including Intel, ElOp and many others. He has published numerous papers on computer vision and video exploration and holds 5 issued patents. Caspi is a Major in the Israel Air Force, serving as a rescue helicopter pilot for 17 years.
Rafi Pilosoph

A veteran of the Israeli high-tech scene, prior to joining BriefCam, Rafi Pilosoph served as Vice President of Marketing & Sales at ImageID (acquired by Zetes) where he was responsible for the definition and execution of marketing strategy and refocusing of existing technology towards new markets. As Director of Security Services at Aladdin Knowledge Systems (acquired by SafeNet), his team was responsible for all business and product-related aspects of content security offerings. Pilosoph has also held executive positions at Microsemi (formerly PowerDsine), IC4IC, WiseBand Communications, Netology (a Comverse subsidiary), Madge Networks (formerly Lannet Data Communications, now Avaya Communications), Rosh Intelligent Systems and Daisy Systems. Pilosoph began his career at Fairchild Memory Test Systems, having completed a BSEE from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, CA. He holds an MBA from Pepperdine University, Malibu, CA and served as a First Sergeant in a technical unit of the Israeli Air Force.

Michal Hillel joins BriefCam after 13 years at ImageID where she first served as Controller and then, following the company’s acquisition by Zetes Industries, as Vice President of Finance of the Zetes ImageID Innovation Center. Prior to that, she held a management position at accounting practice Rozenblum-Holtzman. Ms. Hillel holds a BA in Economics and Accounting and an MA in Law from Bar Ilan University and is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Israel.
